ok. i play tested it. it works very well. i would say it hits the splinter twin-exarch combo about 50% of the time on turn 4. 40% of the time the kiln fiends tear it up by turn 4. in the long game, the remaining 10% of the time, the jaces did their thing. i believe this deck will be fnm competetive and could win many a match on fridays. cards broken down and how they are used: kiln combo: mana leak - duh. why 3? dont need 4. have 3 mental missteps. burst lightning - why 2? wont often have the mana for the kicker. gut shot - used with kiln fiends for maximum effeciency and a free cost instant. mental misstep - stops opponents duress type cards on turn 1. kiln fiend - works so well with the number of instants in the deck. also is good for drawing removal sp[ells, allowing the exarch to get played. into the roil - gets rid of pesky blockers and planewalkers and pro red creatures. kicker wont often be used but is usefull. lighting bolt - 3 main board to allow room for gut shots. gitaxian probe - this decks ponder card. another free cast to boost the fiends. kiln combo of the night: used 2 gut shots on turn 4 with 2 active kiln fiends and opponent had one blocker - phyrexian obliterator, opponent was hit with kiln fiend the turn before and a burst lightning (20-7=13 life). used a mental mistep to counter one of the gut shots, man leaked the mental misstep. damage: 2 gut shots + 13 for the kiln fiend that got through. splinter-exarch combo: splinter twin - just a broken broken broken card. hah hah! deceiver exarch - just as broken. always wait to play these as a flash combo at the end of your opponents turn. play the exarch, next turn, draw, play the splinter twin and game over. in 7 matches, i went 6-1. only 3 matches went 3 games. i lost one of them. i won 7 games with the splinter combo, 5 with the kiln fiends and 2 with jaces ultimate. vs. white control: 2-0 vs. rdw: 2-0 vs. uw blade: 2-0 vs. mono black control: 1-2 2-1 (deck destruction gave me fits.) vs. mono black aggro: 2-0 2-1 side board tech: i would always side out the probes first. i would take out no more than 1 jace or 1 splinter twin, the mental missteps go against big cost decks. vs aggro: + into the roil, lightning bolt, traitourous instinct are all helpful. vs uw blade: + spellskites, into the roil, pyroclasm, mental misstep, lightning bolt vs rdw: + spellskites, into the roil, pyroclasm, mental misstep, lightning bolt, flash freeze vs mono black infect: + spellskites, into the roil, pyroclasm, mental misstep, lightning bolt vs dark blade: + spellskites, into the roil, mental misstep, lightning bolt vs titan-ramp: + spellskites, into the roil, mental misstep, lightning bolt, traitourous instinct vs rug: + spellskites, into the roil, mental misstep, lightning bolt, traitourous instinct any suggestions? criticisms?
