** Background music: Billy Joel `Its Still Rock and Roll to Me`**

Matthew `Doc` Williams
Big O`s Collectibles
London KY
8-31-01

The night before and the day of I only had one thought on my mind: SRB. Burn them all, burn them quick, what`s your life total at? I have the deck built, I have the fireblasts in my hand, and I have the deck list printed up. I remember donate. I scrap it all to play Counter`Kaboom.

The Deck:

4 counter spell
4 force of will
4 absorb
2 forbid

3 swords to plowshares
4 nevinyrral`s disk
3 wrath of god
2 gerrards wisdom

4 impulse
3 fact or fiction

1 morphling
1 rainbow efreet
1 masticore

4 tundra
4 thawing glaciers
1 soldevi excavation
1 kjeldoran outpost (bob town, bobs a good guy.. never screws with people just wants to get home to his old lady for some quality time.. anyway)
7 islands
5 plains

SB:
4 teferi`s response (I don`t deal well with LD)
4 gainsay
3 energy field
1 aura of silence
3 seals of cleansing (1 should have been another aura)

Notes on the deck:
Wastelands wreck it. No one plays wastelands at Big O`s. Go figure. If the local metagame supports it this deck will do well. If you run in a heavy wasteland/dustbowl environment I would not suggest playing this deck as you would not do well with it. Know thy local metagame and thou shalt always win.

Gerrards Wisdom: Should have been 3.

Impulse : Should have droped to 3 and added 2 whispers. Something else would need to drop as well but darned if I can think of anything.

SB: Response is key, the metagame is so light on LD at the moment they are more proactive then reactive but still.. just in case.

Aura and seal: I hate stasis.

EF: Beat burn.

Gainsay: when you only have 3 threats its important that one of them resolve:

Anyway on to the report:

Round 1: Craig 5 color junk.. and I don`t mean the good kind.

The kid could have been no older then 8 and had never been to a tournament before. I had overheard him talking about his Power Stone Mine Field tech before the tournament and in an effort to forward good relations I offer him a draw. Right from the hop. He refuses.. oh well so much for being a nice guy.

Game 1: Nothing he does resolves.. wait that`s not true his reef shamans see play.. oh and his segmented worm.. Wrath, Bob town, Game.

Game 2: Rethink my Morphling.. force of will. Game.

Round 2: (insert name of person who I played here (someone borrowed my notebook)) R/G hate.

He`s playing scragnoth, oblit, and stuff that hates blue.. K.

Game 1: First turn wall of tinder.. pause.. pause.. pause.. `What does that do?` look at the card.. pause.. pause.. pause.. sure. Second turn tinder.. 3rd turn scrag. 3rd turn swords.. complete control.. Morphling for the win.

Game 2: More of the same except I have to counter a choke.

Round 3: Joker w/Maher.. wait a minute.. stupid red burn.

We draw. Simple and uncomplicated. No reason to play Joker at round 3 when a draw puts in with easier match ups and 11 is the guaranteed magic number with 10 being a almost.

(interesting side we play for fun he puts 4 lands in a pile from the fact or fiction then blood oaths for lands doing 15 to me. I still win.)

Round 4: Dwight w/ Green Red Land D.

Yikes.. umm.. there`s never any land D here?

Game 1: Complete control. He keeps a no land hand with birds and rangers.. swords when he does get them and counter for his other stuff.

Game 2: keep a 2 land hand. I loose.. all righty then.

Game 3: 3 lands on the hop. 2 response.. draw into 2 more. Game Game Game.

Round 5: Daniel w/Oath.

I look at the standings.. Beating Daniel most likely puts Doyle out of the tournament and Doyle is playing Stasis. Daniel is a good guy but its looking like its time to dream crush.. think think think.. he begs.. well sorta.. I say screw it Terry is Doyles daddy and we draw. Terry is in fact Doyle`s daddy and he gets kicked to the curb. No stasis in the finals.. yay.

Top 8:

I will take this time to complain. Team Karma is all the time being paired up in the first round of the finals.

Round 1: Terry Street w/ R/W/U

Team Karma captain vs Team Karma Scrub. Let me give you a hint. I aint the captain.

Game 1: He has no answer for bob town.

Game 2: He has no answer for bob town.

We are still trying to decide which one of us should win since the top 4 and beyond read as White Small Guys x2 SRB and one of us. Both of our decks are good against white. I have the advantage as far as red goes because I have energy field and wisdom.

I eventually get the nod since I have beaten Joker once tonight and I own Terry Wests White/Blue with no counter rebel deck.

Round 2: Terry West.

Sigh.

Game 1: Paris to 5 never see a third land

Game 2: Paris to 6 never see a fourth land and he goes 2nd, 3rd, 4th turn meddling mage. God Hates Me.

Well that`s that. 5th straight tourney in the top 4. The whole worlds against me I swear to god.

Props:

Barry for working off his time in purgatory by helping my first round opponent and giving him like 80 dollars worth of rares for a rebel deck.

Terry West for breaking it off in me.

Big O for buying my power 9 stuff.

Slops:

Me for being a scrub.

Me for being land screwed

Me for being in the top 4 for the last 5 tournaments and stalling.
