Big O`s Collectables
London Kentucky

Well, another great night of Friday Night Magic at Big O`s Collectables(in
London, KY just off of I-75 in the K-Mart Shopping center)and Team UK once
again stands at the top of the Mountain. For those who don`t know, Friday
Nights at Big O`s is the best tourny in Kentucky. The best competition in
the state shows up on friday nights. Last week was Invasion block sealed, My
teammate Doc and I made it to the finals.

This week was Type Two (total attendance of 28) and I found myself in the
finals once again and brought home the Gold with only one game loss all
night. I played a version of my favorite standard deck of all time - Go-Mar
- which i`ve tweeked over many tournys and it worked Flawless all night.
Here is my Deck list...

4 Absorb (best spell ever, except for Jump of course)
4 counterspell
3 dromar charm
2 foil
4 Accumulated Knowledge
4 Probe (MUCH better than FoF in Nether based control decks)
2 Dismantling Blow
4 Wrath of Good
2 Rout
1 cremate (don`t leave home without it)
1 misdirection (aka Force of Will in counter battle)
3 Nether Spirit
1 Dromar
TOTAL: 35

7 Islands
2 swamps
3 plains
4 adakar waste
4 coastal tower
3 Dromar`s Caverns
1 Salt marsh
1 underground River
TOTAL: 25
TOTAL: 60

Sideboard:
2 Tsabo`s Decree
1 sacred ground
1 Tsabos web
2 Cop red (goes in every side I make, period)
1 cop black
2 disenchant
2 misdirection
4 gainsay.

I`ll Discuss the Build after the tourny report...

Round 1: Me vs. Josh (Orim`s chant/Desolation Angel Madness)
Game 1: He makes some odd plays this game, using discard to keep my hand
down and Orim`s Chant`s/Suppress to deny me options during my turn. He was
nervous and made some bad play`s (Orim`s chant during my turn? whatever, i`m
playing control)I took control rather easily. I win 26 to 0.

Game 2: He gets an early creature and hits me for some damage. I absorb a
couple times, get back up to 23. The only excitment came when he cast a
desolation angel with kicker, I Ak`d for 3, got the Absorb, countered the
Angel, Dromar Beatstick to victory. Easy First round win.

Match: 1 - 0 Game: 2 - 0
ROUND 2: Me vs. Doyle (Fires)
Game 1: I hate meeting Doyle this early. Every game we`ve ever played has
been Epic and well fought. He`s a good player and our decks always put up
in incredible match when we play. However, Fires is a great match for me so
i thought it`d be an easy win...I was wrong. First game he doesn`t hit the
Fires Fix, but Early Ports allowed him to Tie up my mana and force some
stuff through. I get the nether on the board and slow down the beats. I
wrath away three of his critters and probe with kick next turn. With a
fires on the board he hits a burst and I can`t stop it. I`m beat down to 4.
I disenchant the Burst next turn and eventually absorb back up 12 (out of
range of a rage). I get a dromar on the board with few cards in hand, no
counters. He casts a Shivan Wurm next turn (bad mistake). I swing with the
6/6 beat stick and activate his ability to send the wurm back to his hand.
With a counter in hand I gain total control and swing the Dromar to victory.
Great Game.

Game 2: with 22 minutes left we play another great game, he beats me down to
7, I absorb back to 13 and gain control. With a nether shield down and
Routs/Wraths/and counters a plenty I never draw the dromar to win. The
match runs out of time. Me and Doyle shake after another great epic match
and I escape with a key victory over a good deck.

Match: 2 - 0 Game: 3 - 0
ROUND 3: Me vs: Jerrie (Red/Black/Blue Nether-Pyre zombie deck)

Game 1: Jerrie is one of the most improved players out of the 50 to 60 ppl
that play at Big 0`s. He gets better and better every week. This week he
played a good deck and went far (more on that later). Game one lasted
forever. After a timely creamate on a pyre zombie, a few well timed AK`s
(taking advantage of his Ak`s which I countered) I had a measure of control.
In hand I had an absorb, a foil and a dromar, a land, a dromar charm, a
misdirection and a probe. I fought dromar through using every counter
leaving only a Misdirection and Probe in hand. I`m tapped out. On his turn
he attempts to bounce the dromar to my hand, I misdirect the charm to his
Crosis Catacombs, he can`t back the charm with counters cause he used them
all trying to stop dromar. I swing to victory.

Game 2: Dromar comes out very early thanks to a couple Ak`s filling my hand
with misdirections and foils to back him. Quick beatdown to a 20 to 0
victory.

Match: 3 - 0 Game 5 - 0
ROUND 4: Me vs. Amber (Machine Head, very good build)

Game 1: Amber is a pretty good player, and actually a hot chic that plays
magic (rarer than a black lotus my friend), she makes some bad calls but
with practice could be really good. However, I`ve NEVER lost a game to
Machine head, EVER. And tonight would be no different. I have control the
whole first game and win with nether beats.

Game 2: Cop red and Cop black = I win no matter what she makes me discard or
casts. More Nether beats = I get a 30 minute break this round.

Match: 4 - 0 Game 7 - 0
_______________________________________

ROUND 5: Me vs. Eric Lambert (White/Green Rebels)

Game 1: Eric`s a great guy and a good player. Eric`s deck has came in 2nd
in a previous tourny so I knew it was a good build, rebels are a tough match
usually for me anyway. So we decided to draw into the 1 and 2 seed
positions for the top 8, shared a good luck and an "i`ll see you in the
finals" and played a couple games (without sideboard to save surprises)for
fun to kill time. I dominated the first game and the second. Rebels just
ain`t as good without some good ole fasioned counterspells. On to the top
8.

Match 4 - 0 - 1 7 - 0 - 1
_______________________________________

TOP 8 (quarterfinals): Me vs. Mikey (Eeek, Counter Rebels)

Game 1: Mikey is from Team Barbourville and seems to be pretty solid of a
player. Not to mention his deck is my daddy since Meddling mages and
counter magic stop my WOGs. He`s a little nervous but plays well. He jumps
out early with 2 meddling mages and a rebel and I`m at 9 fast. Game 1 he
meddle`s wraths and absorbs but I rout as an instant to take board control
when he taps out. I absorb to 12, counter everything else he does. probe
with kick two consecutive turns gets him down to 1 card, I establish my
nether shield, and swing the Big Stick - Dromar - to victory.

Game 2: Easy win. He runs out fast, gets me down, but I wrath a couple
times and get out dromar. He wraths, I absorb, he absorbs, I misdirect the
absorb to the misdirection (Force of Will baby)for free, he scoops and we
shake hands.

Match 5 - 0 - 1 Game 9 - 0 - 1
________________________________________

TOP 4, semi-finals: Rematch Me vs. Jerri (Red/Black/Blue Nether/Pyre)

Game 1: Very lopsided in the end. We go FOREVER laying out lands and
testing each others hands. I cast an AK, he counters. He casts an AK I
counter...tit for tat, tat for tit. We go about 15 to 20 turns building our
hands and pitching our nethers. Stalemate. After forcing an AK for like 5
through, next turn I cast a dromar, a counter battle ensues, an absorb gets
me to 23. I win the counterspell exchange, beatstick ends the game in 3
turns (painlands hit him for like 4 damage). I win 23 - 0.

Game 2: He picthes nether on first turn, casts pyre zombie and beats me
down. Never saw a nether, a wrath, a rout or a charm to slow it down.
grrrr....first loss of the night, missed the no hitter.

Game 3: No contest, dromar comes out 6th turn and with foils and
misdirections and gainsays a plenty I swing for the easy win (beat myself
down with Adakar Wastes to 16).

Match: 6 - 0 - 1 Game: 11 - 1 - 1
_________________________________________________

FINALS: Me vs. Guess who - ERIC LAMBERT (Green/White rebels)

Game 1: He hits me with every thing he`s got, searches like mad, I get
knocked to 9. I wrath, get out nether, counter everything he does, wrath
again, hardcast nether and beat down for 4 a turn. 4 absorbs later I win 21
to nothing.

Game 2: Same as Game one. He beats me down to 11, I wrath and establish
board control. His army grows again, I Tsabos Decree for 3 rebels in play
and 2 in his hand. I probe with kick on my turn him down to one card.
Dromar and Nether beats secure the win and the tourny for the University of
Karma!!

Final Match record: 7 - 0 - 1
Final Game record: 13 - 1 - 1
______________________________________________

I love this deck. Its so strong still but very underplayed in Type two.
The addition of 2 Routs adds so much more power by giving more mass board
control. Also, the ability to have up to 3 misdirections and 4 gainsay
after side makes the match against heavy control decks almost a gauranteed
win coupled with 13 main deck counters and the unstoppable nether spirit. 1
cremate is so useful because it is back up in case you make a mistake (which
we all do) and get 2 critters in the graveyard, and it replaces itself. With
Sacred ground in the side for Obliterates, gainsays for blue, misdirections
for counters and rage, tsabo`s web for ports, tsabo`s decree for rebels and
saproling tokens, and the CoP`s to abuse machine head, plus 2 disenchants
for Fires/bursts and chimeric idols this deck has tremendous sideboard
versitility.

Like I said, this is my favorite standard deck of all time. It always has a
chance of winning agaist any match up if played smart by a good player. So
dust off your nethers, unbox the probes and get this deck together before
the November 1st rotation and odessy knocks out the key Nether spirits and
misdirections and this deck goes the way of the magic deck history. I
gaurantee you`ll go far during your next tourny.

Also, if you live in South East KY or North East TN or anywhere within the
London KY area, get down to Big 0`s!! We have a great Magic scene with
dozens of good players every friday. Tourny size ranges from 25 to 50 and
we are growing every week. When we get a level 1 judge we will be having
24k tournys every week!!! Friday nights at 7:30, take I-75 to the south
london exit, get off and turn towards Shell. Go down past the movies, past
office depot, past the post office and turn into the K`mart/Kroger plaza.
Then go right and head towards the buildings accross the patch of grass bye
