--how the deck is played-- how you play this deck is very situational (making it hard to playtest by myself). you don't have to use the counter-magic cards sparingly, but be smart about it of course. cunning wish is great for finding that card you need for the deck you're playing against, even if it's used to get enlightened tutor to find isochron scepter. the only thing that will never change about how the deck is played is this: never play cunning wish on your turn. simple enough. now, for a little bit about the logic i used for creating the deck, read below. this deck is still being thought out and constructed so all comments suggestions are welcomed and hoped for. the sideboard is still being worked out as well so suggestions for cards to put in take out would be much appreciated. i put panoptic mirror and beacon of tomorrows in my sideboard as a reminder to myself. if i'm not mistaken, if you imprint beacon on the mirror, it's infinite turns from there on. i might put those two cards in place of treachery i have been considering adding meddling mage, probably in placement of rewind. he might be overkill, or maybe a good sideboard if i find myself playing against a deck with a combo or 'i win' card. i'm considering memory lapse now, too, since i thought it would go nice with the scepter; opponent wouldn't draw any new spells as long as they play one because one would always land back on top of their deck to redraw. --how the deck came to be-- this deck has gone through a major overhaul. i haven't played magic for about a year but i've started to play again. i was looking through spoiler lists and other decks on this site and found isochron scepter and thought it would be a perfect addition to a blue control deck that i created around ertai, wizard adept and arcane laboratory. the scepter with a counterspell imprinted on it would work even better than ertai (plus i was using energy field so countering without discarding was another obvious plus for me). i later came across living wish and figured wish cards were made for each color. low and behold there was a wish for blue in the form of cunning wish. i felt the wish had great synergy with isochron scepter coupled with a strong sideboard. as i began to find cards to put in my sideboard i came to realize that having the scepter in play every game was crucial and just waiting around for it wasn't going to be enough. i know there are many blue cards that will retrieve artifacts, and more than ever now with the newest block, but what i could find were sorceries, and since the deck is very situational i like to leave my mana open on my opponent's turn as a threat, countering if need be, and then playing instants to help me when they've finished their turn. i figured the best card to help get the scepter was enlightened tutor (another instant for the sideboard, too). i was wary about splashing in some white because i didn't want the tutor to be the only white card in the deck. that would just make my mana situation unpleasant, but i knew with newer lands making a multi-color deck wouldn't be as difficult mana-wise. i soon after discovered orim's chant, another good card for the scepter, which i eventually favored over arcane laboratory (yes, i know there is a card in white just like arcane laboratory). by this time the number of counter-magic cards in the deck was lower than i wanted, and i felt ertai had become somewhat obsolete (and too mana-consumptive for how the deck had turned out) so he was replaced with absorb which i thought would further justify the addition of white. now some might ask
