DESCRIPTION
Hey I'm back with another MatchoBuild for Pioneer. This time it's a dirt-cheap W Knight tribal tempo deck that's incidentally also a perfect starter deck for new players. It's easy to modify into WB, WR, WG and even WBR builds as the beginner becomes more comfortable with the game and can be built to accommodate both aggro, tempo and midrange play styles.
This monowhite build is that rare case that is both very straightforward to learn but still fun to pop off with. The basic notion is that you're trying to flood the board with Knights, take the board and swing for victory with the final chapter of History of Benalia and Valiant Knight; simple stuff. But, there's a twist. This deck rocks the overlooked synergies between Basri's Lieutenant (the deck's signature card), and +1/+1 counters. W Knights have a surprising number of ways to generate them, with Odric's Outrider as the major source. Between that, Venerable Knight, Unbreakable Formation's Addendum and Idyllic Grange, you can reliably stack your creatures with counters to recycle them into Knight tokens when they do. Paired with Worthy Knight, the deck ends up running as a token deck, where the tokens keep turning into +1/+1 counters and Knight tokens for just-about infinite board presence!
Factoring in Unbreakable Formation for protection, and the aforementioned Valiant Knight and History of Benalia as well as Benalish Marshal your Knights and Humans quickly dominate the board. Like many aggressive decks, this one doesn't run a lot of card draw or recursion. But, to prevent mana problems and add a tutor for Idyllic Grange the deck sports a full set of Knight of the White Orchid; a common sight in Commander but legal in Pioneer and very powerful here as well as the brand-new Knight-Errant of Eos that seems almost intentionally designed for this deck!
This deck is so straightforward it doesn't really have any obvious sideboard picks but I dropped some options for you anyway. You could consider Guardian of Faith if you're up against a lot of sweeper effects maybe? It's up to you. Good luck, and have fun!
