DESCRIPTION
This deck is a hybrid between two MTG YouTuber decks that have caught my attention.
The first is Merchant's Turbo Surveil and the second is Strictly Better MTG's Dimir Latrata.
I like the punchiness of the more aggro-based Turbo Surveil and I also appreciated the more midrange capability of the Dimir Latrata deck.
Essentially, this deck looks to win the game by playing "normal magic" and turning creatures sideways. However, the non-aggro features are a value-creating synergy from the surveil mechanic, card advantage and proactive removal from the discard effects.
This is an mid-to-low range aggro deck that looks to give the opponent a headache. Etrata offers an alternate win condition that I beleive the increased surveil will really facillitate. This is helpful for those out-of-reach moments encountered with life-gain and static boardstate strategies. Lasav is a swiss-army knife in the right condition and can even be used to copy Etrata for another hit counter.
The sideboarding is fairly straightforward. Knight of Malice plays against white decks. The rest are selective tools to make the deck more control and to go the Dimir control route. Simply remove the creatures at the low end of the mana curve and replace with the control magic.
