Vela The Night-Clad

Budget Commander: Vela The Night-Clad This is a custom budget commander deck built around Vela the Night-Clad and her ability to grant intimidate and her second ability to punish the life totals of your opponents whenever your creatures leave the battlefield. It is also built around the idea that you don't want to or cannot spend a lot on a commander deck but still want to play something fun and capable of winning games. This deck is both fun and can win games. All because of Vela the Night-Clad and her intimidate granting ability! The way intimidate works is that a creature with intimidate can only be blocked by artifact creatures or a creature that shares a color with it. This makes it very effective as a way to get your attackers into your opponent's life total. But with creatures with devoid it becomes nearly abusive! You see, a creature with devoid has no color! So if it also has intimidate it cannot be blocked by non-artifact creatures at all! And, on the other side of it, non-artifact creatures with devoid cannot block creatures with intimidate at all. With Vela the Night-Clad, we fill the deck with creatures with devoid so all your monsters become unblockable to anything that is not an artifact creature while Vela the Night-Clad is on the table. Then we pick cards that work to take advantage of her other ability or help advance your game plan. The deck is divided into cards taking advantage of Vela's ability and cards that help get you to your win conditions. For your creatures, your early drops like Prophet of Distortion get you card advantage or can really hurt your opponent like with Sludge Crawler. The crawler can be a very powerful threat with Vela the Night-Clad in play. Inexpensive early drops that grant card advantage or can be pumped will always be relevant in this deck. Particularly if they have a repeatable ability that helps you win. Dimensional Infiltrator seems custom-built for Vela the Night-Clad's ability. You exile one of their cards which is useful by itself and then they lose life if you return it to your hand. Blinding Drone is an eldrazi you can use to keep creatures from attacking or blocking. Essence Depleter will slowly suck the life out of your foes while your eldrazi army crushes their resistance until you can finish the game with big guns like Sire of Stagnation or Artisan of Kozilek. There are many support creatures in the deck that help destroy your opponent's forces, grant card advantage or help disadvantage your foes with ingest or other forms of removal. Grip of Desolation, Void Shatter,Witness the End and other cards in the deck will help crush your enemy's game plan. A lot of the deck's utility is in the creatures and just playing them out will slowly force your opponents into submission!
